We've previously written several posts showing examples of classic and contemporary artists. Today we visit a true animation legend, Eric Goldberg, who has had the rare talent and capacity to span eras producing master pieces in the traditional pre-CGI, mostly hand drawn genre to the modern cutting edge animations today. As a Director, Designer, and Animator, Eric's expertise covers both traditional hand-drawn animation and cutting-edge computer animation, pioneering innovative techniques in both realms.

Eric's passion for animation ignited at a young age when he created flip books and Super-8 films, earning recognition and accolades for his work. After attending Pratt Institute in New York, he joined Richard Williams in London as a director-animator on various television spots. Later, he co-founded Pizazz Pictures, a commercials studio, where he directed ads using diverse techniques like cel-animation, stop-motion, and digital compositing.

His talents caught the attention of Disney, where he became Supervising Animator for the iconic Genie in "Aladdin." Eric's success continued as he co-directed "Pocahontas" and animated the memorable Phil in "Hercules." He took the reins as director, writer, and animator for two sequences in "Fantasia/2000," earning critical acclaim for his artistic vision and dedication to the project.

Always pushing the boundaries of animation, Eric experimented with computer animation techniques that matched the fluidity of hand-drawn animation. He brought the Genie back to life in 3-D computer animation for the Tokyo Disney Seas attraction, "Magic Lamp Theatre."

Eric's creative journey didn't stop at Disney; he contributed his talents to various projects, including Maurice Sendak's "Where The Wild Things Are" and Warner Bros.' "Looney Tunes: Back in Action," where he animated beloved characters and even lent his voice to some.

Recently, Eric directed captivating high-definition cartoons, including "A Monkey's Tale" for a Buddhist cultural center and new animation for Disney's "The Three Caballeros."

Returning to his alma mater, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Eric is currently serving as Supervising Animator for "Louis" in Disney's upcoming hand-drawn animated feature, "The Princess and the Frog."

Eric Goldberg's illustrious career and dedication to pushing the boundaries of animation make him an animation icon, inspiring animators and audiences alike with his unparalleled creativity and talent. As he continues to leave his mark on the industry, Eric's legacy as a visionary animator will undoubtedly endure for generations to come.
